Why is vintage Fendi Baguette so popular? The history of the 90s It-bag.

The short history of the vintage Fendi Baguette.

"It's not a bag, it's a baguette" said Carrie Bradshaw in the "Sex and the City" episode about the famous Fendi accessory that is said to be the first-ever It-Bag. Today it is as popular as it was in the 90s and retails for even 3000 dollars.

It was designed by Silvia Venturini in 1997 when fashion was all about minimalism. Prada nylon bags and simple Calvin Klein dresses were trending. Next to them, the Baguette - small, less practical, and sometimes covered in colorful sequins seemed a bit ironic, especially since it was named after delicious carbs. It is said that even before it was launched, Venturini's design was already controversial for Fendi's management but all it took was a couple of minutes of the airtime to make it the most desirable accessory ever.

In 2020 it became popular again thanks to celebrities like Bella Hadid and Rihanna, and the slow-fashion movement.

And according to Vogue "just like the French bread - Baguette will never go out of style".
